Cookie policy

What cookies are, which ones GoBusiness Directory uses, and how to change your mind. Non-essential cookies are only ever set with your consent, as required by PECR and the UK GDPR.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device so it can remember things between pages and visits — for example, that you are logged in, or which preferences you chose. Similar technologies (such as localStorage) work in comparable ways, and this policy covers those too.

2. The categories we use

Strictly necessary. Required for the site to work: your login session, security tokens that prevent cross-site request forgery (CSRF), and the cookie that records your consent choice itself. These do not need consent and are always on.
Functional. Remember choices that improve your experience, such as your light/dark appearance preference. These store no personal profile and are not used for tracking.
Analytics. Aggregate usage measurement that tells us which pages are useful. Only set with your consent.
Advertising. Google AdSense cookies used to serve and measure ads on free listings. The AdSense script is not loaded at all unless you have consented to advertising cookies — consistent with PECR (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003) and the UK GDPR.

4. Managing and withdrawing consent

When you first visit, a consent banner asks which non-essential cookies you will allow — "Accept all" and "Reject non-essential" carry equal weight, and nothing non-essential is set until you choose. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time on the cookie preferences page, which is linked in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent stops the relevant scripts loading from your next page view; cookies already set by third parties can be removed using your browser controls below.

5. Browser controls

Every modern browser lets you view, block and delete cookies — usually under Settings → Privacy. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you logging in. Guides for common browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. You can also opt out of personalised advertising from Google at adssettings.google.com.
